So chances are you’ve heard of Schapelle Corby the Australian accused of smuggling drugs into Bali. One reason why I’m covering Schapelle Corby is a girl in my drama class said that its impossible to be named Schapelle and not become a drug dealer though she thought Mercedes had it worse (this girls name was Emmerson by the way). Maybe this view is because most names ending in elle are considered bogan (think Narelle and Chantelle). Schapelle has never ranked in Australia and most likely never will because of the drug dealer image it has now but Chantelle still does (did) at 360 in NSW in 2011 while Narelle hasn’t ranked since the 1990’s.
Do you agree that Schapelle is an awful name?
I always spell her name incorrectly too … it’s actually Schapelle. I wonder how they came up with her name?
Haha it is. I would then it’s just Chantelle with an S and a p really
And no N! 🙂
Someone on BTN said maybe it’s meant to be after Saint Chapelle in Paris, often written S Chapelle, and said the same way.
of course no N.
ok thanks for that background
It didn’t seem very likely to me, and I wondered if it might have been a brand name on an article of clothing or something.
Maybe, where names ending in Elle trendy then?
Sure, like Chantelle and Danielle.
